There's a fella I've known since I was a little boy named Lynn Dudenbostel. And I'll tell you what, he makes some of the finest guitars and mandolins that there ever was. Chris Thile plays a Dudenbostel mandolin. That should tell you enough about how good they are. Anyway, I'm flipping through the channels the other day and shoot me in the foot, there's Lynn right there on the DIY (Do It Yourself) Channel! They were right there in his shop and he's showing them how to make a guitar! And I mean the entire process. That's the big time. His daughter, Lauren, makes the most comfortable mandolin and guitar straps in the whole wide world, hands down, nothing comes close. I was over at Doc Watson's house on Thursday and he asked me, since I was going to Knoxville to check up on the VOLS, to take a couple of his guitars over to Lynn to get him to set them up and stuff. So I did. His new shop is the most precious thing in this world! In a way it was kind of like one of those weird movie scenes where there's parts of things lying around and you feel like you know what they are but you don't until the mad scientist/crazy guy tells you in a hushed and scary tone "Its the Inn Keeper's arm!" Except its all guitar tops and backs and sides and headstocks and things. Lynn is a good person. I just love him. He's one of us. Go up and say "hi" to him if you ever see him out some where.
Wichita, you be a good judge of characters. Lynn's certainly a character.
I was lucky enough to get a "Dude" mando early in his career. It's like my best girl, only it ain't a real girl ........ if you know what I mean!
Take care Wichita! Joe
